Horticulture/permaculture (permaculture is two or more plants helping each other to continously grow and thrive and benefit the wildlife around them as well) is an experiential approach working with the flowers, vegetables and trees growing throughout our 13 acre site, helping the participant to explore the benefits and drawbacks of interdependence and sharing space as well as reflecting on the relationships around them and their own emotions. Mentoring helps young people set and work towards personal goals, develop confidence and overcome fears, as well as developing problem solving skills. Our programme explores identity, family history, dreams, goals, friendships, communication, boundaries and other areas tailored to individual needs.

Horticulture/permaculture is suitable for young people who have an interest in the natural environment, like being outdoors and may be struggling in the educational or home setting due to behavioural, emotional, social and or learning difficulties / disabilities.

Our Mentoring approach is a relational one, working with young people where they are at, but also offering high challenge and high support.

Our Mentoring Programmes explore young people’s identity, traits and characteristics, hopes, dreams, goal setting, confidence, self-esteem, self-worth, friendships, communication and body language, anger etc.

Young people are referred to this programme from Social Services, Schools, Local Education Authorities, Pupil Referral Units, Youth Services and Parents. We can work with young people in small groups, if appropriate, but most of our work is 1-1.
