The art mentoring programme is based on relational therapy working with young people where they are, and offering high support. It explores young people’s identity, traits and characteristics, such as self-esteem, self-worth, and certain strong emotions, such as anger. During the programme we explore issues of body image and try to accept and value who they are; including realising their own  hopes, dreams, and goals. In the programme we aim to build confidence, self-esteem, self-worth, better quality communication and friendships; with a view to developing self-awareness and more control over emotions.

JAC art mentoring programmes are suitable for young people who have an interest in expressing themselves through various mediums, whether they are naturally artistic or want to learn to harness their creativity. It is ideal for young people who may be struggling in the educational setting due to behavioural, emotional, social and or learning difficulties / disabilities. Sessions can be adapted to the physical requirements of each young person. There is the possibility of crossover between mentoring streams.

Young people are referred to this programme from Social Services, Schools, Local Education Authorities, Pupil Referral Units, Youth Services and Parents. We can work with young people in small groups, if appropriate, but most of our work is 1-1.
