Jobs VACANCY for HEAD GROOM AT JAC To be responsible for the equine operations at Just Around the Corner (JAC) and develop the vision for the stables in line with JAC’s mission statement. To ensure the work of the stables is fully integrated into the work of the Charity, providing a safe and caring environment for vulnerable children and young people to participate in Equine Assisted Learning, Riding, Post 16 education in equine studies, work experience and volunteering. General/Admin Requirements •To work directly and alongside the wider team on site, as an integral team member. • Experience in liaising and listening effectively with individuals, and as part of a team. • A positive and progressive attitude to management. •Self-motivation and good initiative. •Ability to maintain confidentiality. •An aptitude to work under pressure and meet deadlines, making best use of available resources. • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Teams/Word/Excel •Excellent organisational skills • A compassion for young people. • Experience of working with children and young people with anxiety, trauma and/or learning disabilities desirable. • To work with mentors to ensure efficient and safe running of equine assisted learning and riding sessions. • To be available for PR and community events to promote/showcase the work of the Charity. GROOM Requirements •To be responsible for the daily management of the equine centre in conjunction with the stable manager, to include team allocation of duties and planning of schedules to ensure efficient running of the stables •To hold regular team meetings and provide updates on progress and any changes to the stables’ routines and workings. • To develop team members through participating in inductions, probationary reviews and regular performance reviews • To maintain administrative records regarding equine care, stock requirements, vehicle maintenance, staff absence and holiday, accident, and safety procedures • Ability to handle a variety of horses, ponies and donkeys • Handling a variety farmyard and small animals • Experience of identifying and making decisions regarding treatment of equine ailments. • Recognise and deal with horse health emergencies and injuries, administrating basic first aid, contacting vet, etc. •Administer prescribed medication to the equines under your care as required •Have a thorough understanding of isolation and quarantine procedures • Liaise with the farrier, vets, dentist, physio and others around routine welfare checks. • To provide high quality care that ensures all equines have access to suitable water, feed and shelter and to ensure that hygiene is maintained. • To ensure stables/shelters are mucked out thoroughly, water receptacles are clean and refilled, feed and hay nets filled and weighed •Ensure all areas are always clean and tidy • As far as possible provide the Five Freedoms for the equines in your care • Ensure paddocks are clean and checked for hazards • Catching and holding of young horses for the farrier and /or veterinary purposes. • Exercising (riding, lunging and hacking) and training horses, ensuring all tack is clean and up to standard. •Grooming, trimming, and bathing of equines, with the application and checking of rugs • Full manual driving licence • HGV driving licence desirable • Transporting of equines safely – as an assistant and/or driver •Experience of driving tractor and trailer • To be on call for emergencies and covering the yard for annual leave and sick days. •Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns JOB BENEFITS Work in a beautiful setting with amazing people who want to work with horses and animals therapeutically to see children and young people flourish.
